Born and raised in Nottingham, Becky Sheeran has just embarked on the next stage of her career at the new regional television channel, Notts TV. Alongside being a journalist, the former BBC presenter runs a YouTube channel, TalkBeckyTalk, where she talks about all things fashion and beauty.

Becky was kind enough to answer a few questions for me for a project a couple of months ago, so here they are!

What inspired you to start your YouTube channel?
I first started making videos online when I was younger, mainly family holidays. Then when I was at uni, my flatmate had a YouTube channel where he uploaded art videos. I then met my best friend Fleur (FleurDeForce for those of you who don't know) at university and she started doing makeup videos, so I decided to start one too! I think I was about 21 at the time.

Where did your love of all things beauty and fashion related come from?
I've always loved trying on clothes and makeup. What I love about YouTube is that it's real people with real options and views. It helped me to find makeup and clothes that I liked and could afford! I wanted to join in all the fun and my love for fashion and beauty really grew then!

How did your broadcast background help when you started your YouTube channel?
I actually started YouTube before I was a broadcaster so I think it helped the other way around. Practising talking to a camera at home in my bedroom made it so much easier when I had a big film crew around me. That was really scary at first!

What has been the highlight of your YouTube career so far?
One of my main highlights on YouTube was meeting a subscriber for the first time. Seeing that real people actually watch me and being able to build amazing friendships from it. My channel and subscribers mean the world to me and I can't wait to meet even more!

Is broadcast journalism as glamorous as it’s made out to be?
Definitely not! Glamorous is the last word I would use to describe it. It’s long hours, often 3am starts and you’re outside for long periods of time. You have to carry the equipment, write your own scripts and work harder than you've ever worked before. There are a few minutes of glamour in the end which are nice to enjoy!

What has been the highlight of your career in journalism so far?
Last year I was nominated as best newcomer at the Royal Television Society Awards and then offered the job as presenter for Notts TV which is where I am about to start. I'm so excited about this new challenge!

Who is your dream person to interview – dead or alive – and why?
I would love to interview Judy Naake who was responsible for bringing St Tropez to the UK. She is such an inspirational woman and has overcome so many barriers, including battling life threatening cancer whilst still growing her business and supporting a family. She is a true inspiration to me.

If this was your last conversation on earth, what words of wisdom would you pass on to me?
Success is 1% intelligence and 99% perspiration.

You can find Becky on Notts TV, her YouTube channel or her Twitter account.
