Why is it such a big deal how much Zoella apparently earns?

So I woke up a few mornings ago to the media going into a frenzy about how much money the lovely YouTuber Zoella supposedly earns. Now I know for a fact that I wouldn't want my earnings published for everyone to see, I don't think anyone really would. So why do people think that it's okay for hers to be published and her brand scrutinised for the world to see?

I thought everyone was over this now as news of how much YouTubers were making came out forever ago, and she got hate for it once and now again. Yes, it may seem like a lot of money to have earned, but that's exactly what she did... EARNED IT! She's a hard-working business woman for crying out loud! Also, let's just remind ourselves that within the eight month period that The Sunday Times reported her earnings for, her first book Girl Online was published and became the fastest selling debut novel ever. That's definitely bound to up her wages. And Zoella Beauty was launched in September 2014, again, that definitely got her a few more quid at the end of the month.

Zoe has been blogging for what, nearly a decade now? And started making YouTube videos over six years ago, so to say she hasn't worked hard for her money is a bit ridiculous. We, the public, have helped internet personalities gain the celebrity status that they hold. We're the ones who fed into the world of blogs and internet videos which brands and businesses saw as an opportunity for them to advertise to a whole new audience. So why is everyone so mad at Zoe's success if we're the ones who gave her it in the first place?

Of course there is going to be a lot of money thrown around in this business, because at the end of the day that's exactly what Zoella is, a business. A brand that Zoe Sugg has created for herself. She's built herself up from having nothing to become an incredibly successful young woman with a devoted audience. And I for one as a 21 year old female, am happy that a woman of a similar age to me has become such a success story. Good for you, Zoe.

One last thing is just a friendly reminder that she's not the only YouTuber making big money. And I'm not going to play the "people are only taking about it because she's a woman" card, because I personally don't think it is this time. I think people just love to hate and be jealous and sadly Zoe's the one in the firing line this time.

Sorry for the rant but I just think the whole story is a bit ridiculous and it shouldn't matter how much money she makes, hence why I haven't said what she apparently earns. I'm sure she'd still be doing it if she made a fraction of the money because you can tell from her videos and presence online that she genuinely loves what she does. And that's probably her biggest reward of all.
